EFFECTIVE TEAM BUILDING FOR EFFECTIVE RESULTS

by Rev James Osborn Nanjo

EFFECTIVE TEAM BUILDING

Team Definition (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Amos 3:3)

  • When leadership ministries are harnessed together by the Holy Spirit to work in cooperation, their effectiveness is multiplied.  Recognising and submitting to each other, they work toward a common goal, and truly become a leadership team.
  • A group organized to work together.
  • To harness or join together.
  • The team concept or support-ministry principle has been proven throughout Scripture and history to be one of the most effective dynamics of any healthy successful local church.
  • As we build a strong and long lasting church, we want to establish a solid foundation of effective team building.
  • Matthew 11:29-30, Proverbs 11:14, Proverbs 15:22, Proverbs 24:6

Team Vision  (Psalm 68:11, Hebrews 2:2, Psalm 133)

  • Team vision is the corporate vision of the church.
  • The vision of Restoration Chapel International is Total Restoration for Total Life.
  • Our short term goals will help us reach the bigger picture of the vision of the church.
  • The short term goals are targeted and planned to be achieved through vibrant departments in the church.
  • All covenant team members need to cooperate and bind together to achieve the common purpose and corporate vision from God.
  • It is a corporate vision because God’s vision is bigger than an individual.
  • An effective team builder must submit to the corporate vision from God for the church.
  • As a team leader, a sign of your submission to God’s vision of the house (Restoration Chapel International) is seen in how you commonly participate in the vision by obeying the common principles and accepted rules of life and of the church.
  • The fruitfulness of the vision requires that all team builders live in proper relationship with God and each other so that His vision can be fulfilled.
  • The team leaders in the churches vision must rearticulate God’s vision for the church in every group meeting and to every new member that forms their department.

One Man Operation  (Exodus 18:17-18)

  • One man operation is limited in ministry results and effectiveness.
  • One man is limited in gifts and ministries to minister to the whole body of the church.
  • One man cannot shepherd the flock of God successfully.
One man cannot carry the burden alone without paying a price physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
MINISTRY SUPPORT TEAM
  • A ministry support team builder functions in a leadership role as an elder, deacon, or department head fulfilling the ministry Christ has given him in the local church (Restoration Chapel International) in support of the senior pastor and the vision of the church.

Conviction of Humility

(Matthew 23:12, James 4:6 & 10, 1 Peter 5:5-6)

  • They must have a divine conviction that God has placed them where they are to serve and not to satisfy their flesh.
    • They must have a conviction that places Jesus Christ above their own desires, ambitions, and opinions.
    • They must see involvement as a way to serve and to give rather than as a way to be seen or promote themselves.
    • They must have a willingness to accept any assignment necessary to advance the overall vision of the church.
    • A team builder must reject the temptation of position consciousness, or an others—should thank me, recognize me, or reward me attitude.

Conviction of Loyalty

(1 Samuel 22:1-2, 1 Chronicles 11:10, 1 Kings 11:16-18)

    • The team builder must have a conviction of loyalty that will serve the church in time of trials.
    • Loyalty keeps the larger picture of the vision in mind.
    • Loyalty overlooks disappointments and avoids strife and disagreement with leadership.
    • Loyalty handles complaints and criticisms easily because it understands the bad results of disunity and discord.
    • The loyal person stands with leadership regardless of the cost.
    • Loyalty and servanthood makes great team members.
    • The loyal person does not keep important information to himself.
    • The loyal person speaks well of the ministry and its leadership in private and in public.

Conviction of Faithfulness

(Colossians 4:9, 1 Timothy 1:12, 2 Timothy 2:2, Matthew 25:23)

    • You must have a conviction of faithfulness.
    • The principles of faithfulness and commitment are basic to leadership.
    • To be faithful in little qualifies you to receive more.
    • A wise man said the reward of a job done well is another job.

Conviction of Availability

(Isaiah 6:8)

    • Team builders see availability as the needed ingredient to being a useful vessel to God to divine leadership and the members of the church.
    • Being available requires good discipline of time and priorities.
    • Availability is much more useful than ability.
    • Availability gets many hands to help the vision meet goals and deadlines.
Availability will impart skill and ability to increase and maximize effectiveness of the Covenant Leaders and Senior Pastor.
