  • When you are delivered from the power of darkness and become a disciple, then the enemy of our soul, Satan, determines to pull us back under his authority and power.  This is called Spiritual Warfare. –Colossians 1:12-14
  • Satan is not pleased that you no longer serve him, so he will do everything possible to get you fall and return to a place under his dominion.
  • In spiritual warfare, you learn how to constantly resist Satan’s advances by the power of God and walk in the victory of Jesus Christ.

1. Two Kingdoms in Operation

           

  1. The Kingdom of God (Light) 
  • The Kingdom of God is the powerful rule and reign of God over all of life.
  • Jesus preached the Kingdom of God as His Good News.

-Matthew 4:23 

  • The Kingdom of God comes to us with power to save, change, heal, and deliver from demons. 

-Matthew 9:35                        -Matthew 12:28           

-Mark 16:15

  • The Kingdom of God is peace, joy, and righteousness in the Holy Ghost.

-Romans 14:17            -1Corinthians 4:20

  1. The Kingdom of Satan
  • A rebellion kingdom set up by Satan and his angel to oppose the rule of God and His purpose for human beings. 

-Ephesians 6:12

  • Responsible for the entrance of sin into the human race.
  • Responsible for all the bad things that happen in the world.

2.  The Character of Satan

  • Father of lies                        -John 8:44
  • Tempter                        -1 Thessalonians 3:5            -Matthew 4:3
  • Deceiver                        -Revelation 12:9

  • The oppressor                        -Acts 10:38
  • The evil one                        -1 John 2:14
  • The accuser                        -Revelation 12:10

3.Who Is The Ruler Of The World?

  1. Ever since the fall of Adam, the ruler ship of this world has belonged to the devil.
  2. God created man in His own image and gave him the power to rule over the earth and subdue it.

- Genesis 1:26-28            -Psalm 8:3-8

  1. As believers, we now have authority like Adam had in the beginning over all of the works of the enemy and the creation of God.

-Ephesians 2:6                        -Ephesians 1:20-22

  1. As believers, we represent Jesus Christ here on earth.  Satan will try to rebel against us, but we are more than conquerors.

-Romans 8:37

4. How Does Satan Attack Us?

  1. We must be aware that the devil is constantly out to destroy Christians.

-1 Peter 5:8

  • Satan attacks believers in the mind.

-2 Corinthians 4:2-3

  • Satan attacks by temptation.

-1 Thessalonians 3:5            - Matthew 4:3

  • Satan attacks through deception.

-2 Corinthians 11:14

  • Satan attacks by inspiring evil thoughts and appeals to the desires of the flesh.

-Galatians 5:17

  • Satan also attacks through people’s involvement with cults, drugs, idolatry, and witchcraft.
  • Satan uses fallen angels (called demons) to trouble people.

-Luke 13:10-15                       

5. How to Overcome Satan

As believers, we know by now that God has given us power to overcome Satan.

           

  1. The Armor of Defense
    1. The blood of Jesus enables the believer to walk in victory over Satan.

-Revelation 12:11            -Colossians 2:15

    1. We need to put on the full armor of God in order to stand our ground.

-Ephesians 6:10-18

    1. Putting on the armor is like putting on Jesus Christ.

-Romans 13:14

  1. The Whole Armor of God
    1. Belt of truth.  Jesus is the truth, dwelling in us and inspiring us to live truthful lives.

-John 14:6

    1. Breastplate of righteousness.  Jesus is our righteousness and that should inspire us to righteous living.

-2 Corinthians 5:21

    1. Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  We must fulfill the Great Commission of the gospel, to make disciples of all nations.  We carry the gospel of the prince of peace. 

-Isaiah 9:6

    1. Shield of faith.  We must live a life of faith, always trusting in God to receive victory over the enemy.

-Hebrews 12:2

    1. Helmet of salvation.  We must walk with the conviction that we are saved and cover our thoughts and thinking with the Word of God.

-Philippians 2:5            -Ephesians 4:23

    1. Sword of the Spirit.  The only offensive weapon which is the Word of God.

-Hebrews 4:12                        -John 1:14

    1. Praying in the Spirit.  We must be open to the Holy Spirit on all occasions and pray with the leading of His power.

-Hebrews 4:16

6. The Weapons for Attack

  1. When Satan comes against a disciple of Jesus, we have the authority of God to not only defend ourselves, but to go on the offensive against Satan.
    1. Use the Name of Jesus Christ.

            -Acts 16:18            -Philippians 2:9-10

  • Use the Word of God.

-1 John 2:14            -Ephesians 6:17

  • Use the power of the Holy Spirit.

-Acts 10:38            -Acts 1:9

  • Use the Blood of Jesus.

-Revelation 12:11
