2.  The Work of the Holy Spirit in the Disciple

           

    • He enables people to be born again.

-John 3:5-8

    • He convicts us of sin.

-John 16:13-14

    • He gives us the power of God to witness.

-Acts 1:8

    • He helps us in our weakness.

-Romans 8:26

    • He testifies with our Spirit that we are God’s child.

    • He gives us joy.

    • He sanctifies us.

    • He enables us to overflow with hope.

    • He enables the fruit of the Spirit in us.

3.The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

  1. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are the supernatural endowment of God’s power.
  2. The Holy Spirit is the one who equips us with boldness in order to do God’s will.
  3. The following are the range of gifts available to us:

-1 Corinthians 12:7-11            -Romans 12:6-8

    1.  Vocal/Speaking Gifts
      • The gift of prophecy
      • The gift of divers kind of tongues
      • The gift of interpretation of tongues
    1. Revelation/Seeing Gifts
      • The word of wisdom
      • The word of knowledge
      • The gift of discerning spirits
    1. Power Gifts
      • The gift of healing
      • The gift of faith
      • The working of miracles
  1. God has made available all the gifts and power that we need to fulfill the Great Commission without any limitation.

4. The Fruits of the Holy Spirit

  1. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are the evidence of God’s character in changing us into the likeness and nature of Jesus Christ.
  2. When the disciple responds to the fruits of the Spirit’s influence, we become more and more like Jesus in our actions and attitudes.
  3. The list of the fruits of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-23

    1. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

5. Holy Spirit Baptism—Speaking in Tongues

    1. You must expect to receive this gift when God the Father fills you or baptizes you in the Holy Spirit.
    2. It is one of the gifts promised by Jesus.

    1. It is the ability to communicate with God, spirit to Spirit, which edifies you. (Builds you up and strengthens your own spirit.)

-1Corinthians 14:2, 4, 14

    1. It is the gift of a language that is personally yours, which you have never learned.

-Acts 2:4, 7-8

    1. It is an aid of praying in line with the will of God.

-Romans 8:26-27

    1. It is a sign that must follow the disciple alongside the other supernatural signs/gifts of the Spirit.

A. The Benefits of Speaking in Other Tongues

    1. Tongues are to be used for the spiritual edification of the believer.

-1 Corinthians 14:4

    1. Tongues are the initial evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

-Acts 1:8            -Acts 2:4            -Acts 10:44-46            -Acts 19:1-6

    1. Tongues bridge the communication gap between God and man.

-Genesis 3:8            -1 Corinthians 14:2

    1. Tongues enable the believer to pray for the unknown.

-Romans 8:26-28

    1. Praying in tongues stimulates your faith and helps you to trust God fully.
    2. Praying in tongues helps you to pray in line with God’s perfect will.

-Romans 8:26-27

    1. Praying in tongues is necessary for intercession (praying for others).

    1. As we pray in tongues, we are speaking divine secrets to God the Father.

-1 Corinthians 14:2

  1. How to Get Filled with the Holy Spirit with the Evidence of Speaking in Tongues
    1. Have faith in God to receive the Holy Spirit.
    2. Desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
    1. Ask the Father to fill you with the Holy Spirit.

-Luke 11:13

    1. Come against the spirit of doubt.
    2. Begin to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives you utterance.
    3. Believe that the Holy Spirit has made the provision for you to speak in tongues.  This is very easy—like receiving salvation.
