1. The Holiness of God

           

  • The holiness of God is revealed to disciples by the Holy Spirit.

  • The holiness of God is revealed to disciples by the Word of God.

  • The holiness of God is revealed by the Blood of Jesus.

  • The Bible mentions God’s holiness more than any other characteristic of God.
  1. The Meaning of Holiness
  • Holiness means otherness.
  • Holiness is separation from all that is imperfect.
  • Holiness is not anything impure or unclean.
  • When God reveals Himself in His Holiness, what we see is glory.

2.  The Holiness of God in the Disciple’s Life

 

  • God wants His disciples to live holy lives.
  • Disciples should live in such a way that the world will recognize we have been set apart from the world and are dedicated to God.

  • As disciples are sons of God and are expected to exhibit Kingdom characteristics such as holiness.

-Hebrews 12:10            -1 Peter 2:9

  • God committed Himself to our holiness by the sacrifice of Jesus.

-Colossians 1:22            -Ephesians 1:4

  • Disciples have the responsibility to walk as Jesus walked to obey God’s commands.

-1 John 2:6                        -Deuteronomy 26:16-19

  • The disciple must put on their new nature created to like God in true righteousness and holiness.

-Ephesians 4:24

  • Without holiness, the disciple cannot see the fullness of God.

3.Holiness by Sanctification

  1. What Is Sanctification?
    1. Sanctification means to be holy.
    2. It is being separated to God and separated from evil thing and ways.
    3. It is the relationship with God into which man enters by faith in Christ.

    1. It is the process by which disciples become more like Jesus Christ in nature.

-1 Peter 1:15-16

    1. It is growing up into Christ Jesus by being transformed into His likeness, so we progressively become like God in our character.

  1. How To Receive Your Sanctification
    1. By the sanctifying work of Jesus.

    1. In Christ Jesus.

4. Benefits of Holiness

  1. As a disciple of Jesus, you will greatly benefit by living a holy and sanctified life.
  • You will be led by the Holy Spirit.

  • You will be filled with the Holy Spirit.

-Ephesians 5:18-20

  • You will be free in the Spirit.

-Romans 8:2

  • You will be moved by the Holy Spirit.

-2 Peter 1:21

  • You will be obedient to the Holy Spirit.

  • You will be full of faith and power.

-Acts 6:3-8

  • You will walk in the Holy Spirit.

  • You will be a partaker of His holiness.

5. Hindrances to Holiness

  • There are many things that can be in our lives to become hindrances to holiness.  Until these things are rooted out, we cannot be as effective as God would like for us to be.
  • To live a continuous holy life, the disciple must first detect the problem, and then be willing to be free from it or else it will strangle the disciple spiritually.

           

  1. We must watch against the following signs in our lives.  Below is a list of a few spirits that hinder disciples from holy living.

-Galatians 5:19-21            -Romans 11:24-32

  • A spirit of jealousy
  • A spirit of stubbornness
  • A spirit of witchcraft
  • A spirit of selfishness
  • A spirit of blasphemy
  • A spirit of hate
  • A spirit of pride
  • A spirit of lust
  • A spirit of anger
  • An adulterous spirit
  • A religious spirit
  • A people-pleasing spirit
  • An unteachable spirit
  • A spirit of gossiping, lying, and backbiting
  • A worldly spirit
  • A spirit of uncleanness

-1 Thessalonians 4:7

  • A spirit of disobedience
  • A spirit of rebellion
  1. As disciples, we must learn to shut the door on all the hindrances to holiness by bringing the flesh under subjection to the Holy Spirit.  As this is done, we remove the things that hinder believers, one by one.
